Inspiration Strikes
I woke up terribly this morning due to a bad dream; it was a pastiche of all the horror movies I’ve seen. At some point it was a bit humorous but as it got to the end I couldn’t see how it could be funny anymore. I had to bug Lainie just as dawn was about to break so that I could get a grip and be calm. The horror film class I took so joyously back in my university days has definitely come back to haunt me, isn’t?
And don’t ask me how, but because of that dream I’ve really decided to do something about my bare room. The first thing I did was cancel my plans for KL this weekend. I actually feel good about this knowing that going hungry during the last stretch of July won’t come to me; that is until I do something impulsive and blow all my money, again. Let’s hope not.
I picked up Catalog and FL.ag magazines in the shops along Ann Siang Hill. I really love that street because it reminds me of a more upscale version of what we have in Manila, called Cubao X. The pages of these two magazines are just brimming with creativity that it really got my juices flowing. Expect me to be playing with my scissors tonight plus some help with my Bostik’s adhesive tack. Bare walls, prepare to get DIY-ed.
Online, I stumbled upon Wordle where I had fun making tag clouds such as the one above. I printed one of them and it will surely have a space reserved in my room’s wall. I want to make my own someday, when I got time and the resources. I’ll have to print out words and cut-and-paste them by hand. I want an entire wall full of them; my very own magnet poetry, if you must.
I also found this 3D chandelier which I plan to recreate. I am hoping some very artistically-abled friend of mine *coughsLainiecoughs* would help me draw this onto a carton box and paint it white. If not, I will need to find a way to get my grandma from the U.S. to send me this. It is only US$36 anyway.
There’s this quaint bookshop called Books Actually which I love and adore. When I walked inside I thought, I could die in here. The place was filled with shelf upon shelf of books. I didn’t get a chance to look at each title closely but I can always drop by during lunch time tomorrow or in the next days, weeks, and months to come. I plan to buy the portable typewriter that’s up for sale. The sound of the pounding keys are just truly – shall I even say it? – orgasmic. I walked away with a rolled-up retro printed paper, for the mean time.
The weekend’s going to be reserved for events I’m attending here in Singapore such as the opening of the photo exhibition, konnichiWHOA!, and the RSC Block Party. I will have to make time for IKEA then – I still need those curtains, bedsheets, and pillows. Ooh…and some laundry detergent and clothes hangers too. Wow, I feel mature and with purpose. Good job.
