The Irony
When I got a laptop, it was supposed to be so I could write more but this week has been my lowest blog post ever, I think. I’ve just been so busy getting all the programs together that my internet activity has been limited to searching for open source software and none of the blogging type whatsoever. And as if that isn’t enough, I haven’t done any reading at all. I mean, sure, I tried going through Sandra Scofield’s The Scene Book: A Primer For The Fiction Writer but after mid-week I was still at xii page, which was the Introduction. I was only able to make it past page 1 when I made a trip to the toilet and brought it along. After that, the book remained in my bag for the rest of the week, never to be opened again. I tried, really, but I just couldn’t.
Seeing that the book isn’t doing me much good, I decided to change it up a little and picked up Jonathan Coe’s What A Carve Up! which is part of the Penguin Celebrations collection; Orange for fantastic fiction, it reads. I really do think novels work for me more (short stories and autobiographies too) and not the textbook type like Scofield’s. It makes me feel like there’s a story – and there is – for me to go back into. Or was Pessl’s book so maginificent that any type of work don’t match up to it? However, I think Coe’s written work will fair remarkably high knowing that Penguin has dubbed it a great work of fiction; my reading’s getting back on track this coming week.
Another book sale is happening this weekend and I’m excited to check out what titles I’ll be bringing home.
