Wish this were real, but it isn't

Hello, I’m Niki. Paniki is actually a Tagalog word for “bat”, meaning the nocturnal mammal that lives in caves and usually associated with vampires and Christian Bale.

I was born and bred in Manila but now I’m trying to build a whole new chapter of my life in Singapore.

Jumping on a plane with a whole bag full of dreams, I’ve set myself up for some really huge undertakings by coming here.  ‘Starting from scratch’ pretty much sums it up, if you ask me.

Books and magazines are my life and I feel lucky to be able to find work in publishing.  In the near future, I hope to come out with (or manage) my own magazine, write my first book, and make shitloads of money.  However, my interest in business has also made me see my writing and creativity as a way to help companies. I am now carving my professional career in public relations and branding.

But sometimes I feel like I’m going nowhere what with my almost minimum wage salary, debt acquisition from haphazard (not to mention, stupid) room rental decisions, and not-very-wise money-spending habits.  Most say that time is on my hands because I’m still young; well I sure ain’t getting any younger, which is why I’m trying to get some control in my life.

When I’ve got enough financial security, I can probably go on to fulfill my nomadic desires of traveling.  For now, I’m stuck on my desk, drinking incessant amounts of coffee and trying to make some sense of where I’m headed.

On Blogging:

So how long have I been blogging?  Since March 2003 and haven’t stopped since.  Well okay, maybe I did but that’s due to neck-high work load and crashing computers.  Suffice to say, I have been updating as frequently as I could.

I’ve also had major site address changes because I wanted to go public but with only my foot out the door, which is strange, I know.  But I was young and carefree and revealed too much that could cause some major black mail material for others to use against me.  Therefore hopping about on different addresses was enough to drive my readers crazy – and forever gone, I realize – so I can’t really say I have a good following in terms of readership.  Fortunately there were some who stuck around but I haven’t gotten around to telling them about this one – yet.

I’ve been with Blogger all this time and switching to Wordpress is perhaps a good change of “scenery”.  I think I needed something fresh and permanent (the latter allows you to change urls without affecting posts which explains my penchant for it) and decided that I should stay put here despite the many restrictions in Wordpress.  I could pay for the extra freedom but I don’t really need them right now.

My old blog and the castoff are linked here under Vintage Niki; you’ll be able to find them somewhere in the sidebar, however, I’ve set them to private.

If you have questions/comments/suggestions/donations/frustrations, I don’t bite unless provoked; so get your word in by contacting me.
