The Week That Was: 19.07.10

Last Monday I was invited to an event held at Food for Thought.  I’ve always been a fan of them (I even had my 23rd birthday dinner there) and they recently opened a second branch along Queen Street, which I’ve never been to.  Finally, I had a chance to go and was totally smitten by this light installation made from perhaps even more than a hundred bottles.

A colleague had bought a bag full of jelly beans and our team, who’s been working very hard on all of our accounts, couldn’t be more thankful.  We munched on these when we needed that extra boost of sugar to get us through the afternoon.

On Friday, I was given this nifty pen.  The mini car is detachable and to make it zoom out really fast all you had to do was pull it in reverse and let go.  It brought me back to my younger days of playing with Matchbox cars.  You can say this is going to be one of the favorite things on my office desk for weeks or until someone accidentally steps on it.

Saturday was such a wonderful day where I finally got to hangout with Nick whom I haven’t seen since my birthday party in March.  I also finally got to see Stephie who’s been busy traveling and writing.  We planned for dumplings during lunch and just retreated to Papa Palheta for coffee and cookies in the afternoon.  Papa Palheta is such a delightful place that actually serves edible coffee.  The long black coffee I had had perfect crema while the cappuccino’s foam that Nick had was beyond gorgeous.  I ended Saturday catching Despicable Me in 3D with Nick, which capped the night perfectly.

I’ve been enjoying my weeks like this; nothing too crazy or eventful.  I’m really spending alone time and only coming out with friends who actually want to hangout with me.

How was your week so far?

The Week That Was: 14.07.10

Just thought that midweek’s the perfect time to share what I’ve done the previous week. Hopefully I can move this up to Sunday night or Monday. We’ll see. Here’s the first of, hopefully, many others.

Mum was in town the first weekend of July and she only stayed till Sunday night. I wasn’t really excited about it considering I was tired from traveling and that I’ve not had a proper weekend for weeks. But to be honest, I quite enjoyed her company. She was easygoing and didn’t mind if we took shelter in malls as the rain poured outside. I got teary-eyed when she left, I mean I haven’t seen her for two years and it just feels nice having your mother around.

Bumped my finger on the shelf of the refrigerator’s side door and didn’t realize my finger was bleeding till I left home for work. It kept bleeding for very much the entire day and I had to wear a bandage for most of the week. Kind of felt like I was sporting a new kind of accessory, only less fashionable.

It’s easier to hangout with Moe Moe now that she’s moved just down the road from where I’m working at. I always offer to come pick her up at her building when we do lunch or dinner and I’m always greeted by a throng of workers at busy intersections.

Ever since I got back from Hong Kong I’ve switched to noodles instead of rice. I’ve been having my daily bowl from this store and I don’t foresee myself getting sick of it just yet.

I am back to doing my Spanish grammar exercises and with Spain winning this year’s World Cup gives me all the more reason to.

For the first time since I’ve moved to Singapore, I found myself traipsing to the area near Admiralty MRT. My good friend Alvin recently moved to a nice condo and promised to cook me brunch. We spent the day swimming and just hanging out. I really missed the nerd.

Let’s Get Crackin’

Four months into being twenty-four years old and I have finally decided that it’s time to grow up. Then again, when does one really grow up? But if there is anything I am working towards, it’s got to be some form of self-improvement. With that in mind, I’ve decided to streamline the content of this blog better. Not only will it help me organize my posts (from here onwards; the archives can stay as is) but it will also help me write better. This is a project that I have been meaning to start since 2010 arrived and seeing as how we’re already more than halfway through the year, I better get cracking.

Posting will remain as organic as possible but I’d like to have an outlet for all the things I read, see, hear, and experience everyday into a post that can be easily consumed. Having used Instapaper as the repository of all things worth sharing, I finally stopped procrastinating and cleaned them out logically into folders.  So now that I am seeing more structure in the content that was once just sitting “there”, I feel more inclined and more inspired to create my own brand of content that makes sense of all of that information.

Ever since I stumbled on Nubby many years ago, I have always found her way of organizing her posts something that I would like to do myself, which is exactly what I’m going to be doing now.  She has always been one of my favorites and though I could never amount to her awesomeness, I believe I can find the enthusiasm to be great at something even though I have no idea what that something is yet.

Beginning this week I’ll be rolling out ‘special categories’.  Currently, I have only finalized three of them and are as self-explanatory as it is — Reading List, The Week That Was (in photos), Movie Night.

Also, I am on the lookout for a clean, minimalist blog layout to help visualize the new change in content.  I’ve shortlisted some and will hopefully get to switching the look and feel of this blog soon.  If you know of any good ones, let me know?

Into the fray!
